Board Member Description
Reports to: Board Chair Term: 3 years, renewable Time Commitment: ~4–8 hours/month (board meetings, committee work, events).
Role of the Board
The Board of Directors provides governance, strategic direction, and financial stewardship for the art center. Board members collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to ensure the organization remains vibrant, sustainable, and aligned with its mission.
Key Responsibilities
• Governance & Strategy
— Participate in setting the organization’s vision, strategic priorities, and policies
–Attend and actively contribute to board meetings (typically monthly )
–Serve on at least one committee (e.g., finance, membership, fundraising events)
• Financial Oversight
–Review and approve annual budgets and financial statements
— Ensure financial stability and compliance with legal and ethical standards
• Fundraising & Development
— Contribute to fundraising efforts through personal giving, networking, or donor cultivation
— Serve as an ambassador for the organization at community events
— Support annual fundraising campaigns, events, and sponsorship efforts
• Community Engagement
— Promote the art center’s mission, programs, and exhibitions
— Bring community perspectives to board discussions

Desired Qualifications
We welcome candidates from diverse backgrounds. Ideal board members bring several of the following:
• Strong commitment to the mission of arts and culture
• Strategic thinking and big-picture vision
•Willingness to participate in fundraising or donor relationship-building
• Ability to collaborate, communicate respectfully, and engage constructively
• Expertise in any of the following:
o Finance, accounting, law, HR
o Fundraising, marketing, communications
o Community organizing or education
o Nonprofit governance
o Facilities management
o Arts, curation, creative industries
• Prior board or volunteer experience (helpful, not required)
